Hi, I’m Lente Werkman; I’m 14 years old and in the third year of the VMBO-T stream. I knew right from the start that I wasn't a fan of large schools, which is why I chose Nuenens College. Everything here is easy to navigate, and it feels familiar because everyone knows each other. I really like that; it makes me feel at ease.
The art track: my passion for drawing
Another thing I love is that I had the chance to choose the art track. I’m really into drawing and painting. My brother used to draw a lot, and I sort of picked it up from him. Now I draw even more than he does, haha. I recently created a special drawing for my arts and culture class: half the image is a photograph, and the other half is a skeleton. It turned out really well! Because I enjoy drawing so much, I’d love to do an internship at a tattoo shop. I can definitely see myself working as a tattoo artist in the future!
Support and understanding from teachers
I feel very comfortable at school, and that’s partly thanks to the teachers. They accept you for who you are and are considerate of your needs. I have ADHD, and sometimes things get really hectic in my head. Luckily, I have a 'time-out pass.' If it all gets to be too much, I’m allowed to step out of the classroom for a moment to calm down. That really helps. And if something is bothering me, I can always talk to a student support worker.
Creative projects
One of the best projects we’ve done was creating a fashion design. I designed a dress based on the theme of climate change. It was blue with green continents on it, and I added flames on the back to represent the warming of the earth. It was a challenge to make it look exactly the way I’d pictured it, but I managed to pull it off!
Confident about my future
I’m glad I chose Nuenens College—bring on the future!
