The upper secondary starts in Year 3. In the upper secondary, students follow lessons at one level: vmbo-b, vmbo-k of vmbo-t. Additionally, they choose a profile and various subjects.
The options for profiles and subjects differ between vmbo-b /vmbo-k en vmbo-t.
In the upper secondary, students following VMBO-b and VMBO-k select a profile. Nuenens College offers two profiles: Economics & Business and Health & Welfare. Students take general subjects such as Dutch and English, along with a practical subject within their chosen profile.
Students ultimately take exams in four theory subjects and the practical subject in their profile.
In the upper secondary, students choose four elective subjects. They can decide which subjects to take. Nuenens College offers nine elective subjects:
In addition to the regular levels, we also offer a work-based learning pathway (LWT Pathway) at the VMBO-b level. In this pathway, students combine education with an internship at a recognized learning company.
In addition to the internship, students must take and complete the subjects Dutch and vocational (profile subject and four elective subjects). After passing the exam, they receive the Basic Vocational Pathway/Work-Based Learning diploma.
Students following the VMBO-T pathway in the upper secondary select a subject package. The subjects Dutch and English are mandatory. Ultimately, students take exams in at least six subjects.
Nuenens College offers the subject PE2 (Physical Education 2) as an extra subject. This subject is taken as a seventh subject. PE2 is an extension of the mandatory PE subject. In PE2, much attention is given to movement, organization, and health.
Nuenens College offers Visual Arts as an extra subject. Students following VMBO-T can take exams in this subject.
